A Day Worth Celebrating Twice
Today marks one year since Illumination Women's Health opened the doors to our new building. It has been a full and meaningful year, and we are glad to be celebrating it with you. This date already meant something to me long before we ever signed a lease. August 11th was my grandmother Sue's birthday.
Sue was a pioneer. She earned her master's degree in nursing at a time when few women reached that level of education, and she spent her life caring for others with a rare combination of intelligence, warmth, and quiet strength. Long before I understood what it meant to be a nurse, I was watching her be one.
Watching her, I learned early that a patient deserves to be listened to, not rushed, and that good medicine and real compassion belong together. Those lessons stayed with me, and they are a large part of why this work matters so much to me.
When we opened this building a year ago, it became more than a new address. It became space to practice medicine the way I have always believed it should be practiced. Unhurried. Grounded in evidence. Centered entirely on the women who walk through our door.
I know what women need in that room, and I know how much time it takes. I have spent more than twenty years learning it, and I am a woman too. I have felt what it is to be rushed, to be half heard, to leave an appointment with more questions than answers. That is not what happens here. Our providers have the flexibility to give each woman the time her care actually requires. That is deliberate. It is how we built this practice, and it is not something we intend to trade away.
Over the past year, this space has filled with the reason we do this work. Women navigating perimenopause and menopause. Women carrying anxiety, depression, or the quiet weight of a season that has asked too much of them. Women looking for care that finally fits. We care for the whole woman here, her body and her mind together, because mental health is not separate from women's health. The mental weight women carry through every season of life deserves the same attention and the same compassion as everything else we treat.
What happens inside these walls is simple. Being heard. Being taken seriously. Being cared for by people who genuinely want you to feel well. Every one of you who chose us, referred a friend, or trusted us with something you had carried for years is the reason this year mattered.
I am also fortunate not to do this alone. I practice alongside providers who bring the same care and conviction to every woman they see, and a team that brings real heart to every visit. We are proud of what we have built here. A year in, I am prouder than I know how to say.
And we are not building it only for the women who walk through our door. We are building it for our community. Every woman across Idaho and Montana deserves care that truly sees her, whether she meets us here in our building or from her own living room by telehealth. Being somewhere women can turn when they have felt unheard for too long is part of what we set out to create from the very beginning, and we are committed to showing up for this community for a long time to come.
So today we are celebrating two things at once. One year in our new home, and the memory of my grandmother, a remarkable nurse whose birthday I will always hold close. Thank you for being part of both.
With gratitude,
Kandiss
