Contraceptive Management

At Illumination Women's Health, we support you in choosing the birth control that fits your life, your body, and your goals, whether that means preventing pregnancy, easing heavy or painful periods, or managing other symptoms. Our team is here to provide ethical, evidence-based care with empathy and respect. We strive to create a safe space where you can openly discuss your preferences and concerns, and we will give you the support and guidance you need to make informed decisions about your reproductive health.

Every woman is different, and the right option for you depends on your health, your priorities, and what feels right to you. We will talk through the choices together, including:

  • Intrauterine devices (IUDs), both hormonal and non-hormonal

  • Contraceptive implants such as Nexplanon

  • Birth control pills, patches, and rings

  • Other methods suited to your needs and preferences

We are always happy to explain how each option works, what to expect, and how it may affect things like your cycle, so you can choose with confidence.

IUDs and Ultrasound-Guided Placement

An IUD is a small device placed in the uterus that offers safe, effective, long-lasting protection, and for many women it also helps with heavy or painful periods. IUDs are among the most reliable options available, and once placed, they require little to no day-to-day attention.

For most women, IUD placement is quick and straightforward, and we take care to keep you comfortable throughout. For some, though, factors like anatomy or a difficult experience in the past can make placement more challenging. Beginning in October 2026, we will offer ultrasound-guided IUD placement with Dr. Karissa Keenan, our board-certified gynecologist. Using real-time ultrasound, she can place the IUD with added precision and comfort, including in situations where a previous attempt was unsuccessful or where standard placement would be more complex.

Whether this is your first IUD or you have had a difficult placement before, our goal is to make the process as comfortable and reassuring as possible.
