ABOUT KARISSA KEENAN

My name is Karissa Keenan and I am a board-certified Obstetrician-Gynecologist (OBGYN). I have been fortunate enough to have cared for women here in the Treasure Valley since 2019. I am honored to join Illumination Women's Health, bringing the training and experience of a physician and surgeon to a team I deeply respect, so that together we can expand the care available to women in our community.

I was raised in a small town in Montana, and those roots still mean a great deal to me and shaped me as a provider. It is a privilege to be invited into a woman's healthcare journey which is centered on trust and communication. I enjoy being a source of information and a sounding board for patients as they embark on healthcare milestones. I'm a wife and a mother to two daughters and a son, and being a parent has made me a more compassionate and patient provider, with a lot more relatability and a little wisdom too. I know how much trust it takes to share what matters most about your health, and I never take that trust for granted.

When I started medical school, I thought I would be an emergency room physician after working as an EMT in college. My OBGYN rotation was completed in Boise, and I fell in love with the relationships I was able to create with patients and the unique and dynamic aspects of the profession. When it was time to find a landing spot to start my career, the Treasure Valley was an easy choice. My husband is a Boise native and together we love to spend time with our kids, watch college football and read. As we embrace the chaos of toddler aged kids, we embrace a lot of the simpler activities in life with park dates, picnics and messy artwork.

My path into medicine began at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana, where I earned my Bachelor of Science. I went on to earn my Doctor of Medicine from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle as part of the WWAMI program, then completed my residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

While most assume the coolest part of an OBGYN's job is delivering babies, my work at Illumination is gynecology, not obstetrics, and it is just as meaningful to help treat someone's painful menstrual cycle, discuss treatment options for perimenopause symptoms or walk someone through an abnormal pap result. There is a lot of information available out there, but having a provider who truly listens and personalizes a care option for you is the style of medicine I strive to practice.

As a gynecologist, I provide comprehensive women's health care across every stage of life, including evaluation and management of gynecologic concerns such as abnormal bleeding, abnormal pap smears and pelvic pain.

Beginning in October 2026, I will offer advanced in-office gynecologic procedures at our Boise clinic, including colposcopy, LEEP and ultrasound-guided IUD placement. As our in-office offerings grow, I look forward to caring for more of those needs right here, so the workup, the diagnosis, the plan, and the care that follows can stay with the team that already knows you. To me, that kind of continuity, unhurried, personal, and close to home, is what good women's health care should feel like.

I believe every woman deserves to be truly heard. Through respect, clear communication, and shared decision-making, I want my patients to feel informed and confident in the choices we make together about their health. Every patient is valued and respected, regardless of background or circumstance, and my goal is to create a comfortable, supportive space where women feel safe discussing their concerns. It is a privilege to care for women, and I am committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each person's unique needs.
